The Global Evidence Mapping (GEM) Initiative aims to improve access to and use of research in health.

Working with the neurotrauma community, the GEM Initiative has identified questions of high importance in prehospital, acute, rehabilitation and long-term care for people with traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury.

The GEM Initiative creates ‘evidence maps’ of research addressing these questions. These maps identify where research is available and where gaps suggest new research is needed.

Patients, carers and healthcare professionals can use the maps to find research to support decisions about care.

Researchers, policy makers and research funders can use the maps to identify areas lacking research.

The GEM Initiative is funded by the Victorian Neurotrauma Initiative and based at the National Trauma Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia.
